MD State Arts Council Awards The Village at Rockville a $500 Grant

December 1, 2015

(ROCKVILLE, Md.) – The Village at Rockville (TVAR), A National Lutheran Community in Rockville, Md., was awarded a $500 grant from the Maryland State Arts Council to help fund its 2011-2012 Artist Series. This grant will help offset the costs of several concerts that The Village hosts, including the Rosen Spector Stern Trio (February 12) and the Balafon West African Dance Ensemble (April 29).

The Maryland State Arts Council is an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. This grant will assist with the presentation of high quality arts programming for The Village at Rockville’s Artist Series. The annual Artist Series includes a concert event each month from September through June and is presented for residents of The Village, local seniors, and members of the community at large.

“We are extremely grateful for this grant as it enables us to present extraordinary musical talent—performers that would not ordinarily be accessible—to the local community at no cost to the audience,” Dr. Jason Gottschalk, Director of Life Enrichment for TVAR said. “Additionally, seniors who no longer have the ability to drive or leave the campus due to disability can still enjoy high quality entertainment and learning.”

The Artist Series was also a grant recipient for 2010-2011. Last year’s grant was used toward a variety of artists who performed, including the Baltimore-Washington Estonian Chorus and Orfeia, an all-woman vocal ensemble specializing in songs and traditions from the Balkans.

The Artist Series is part of The Village at Rockville’s Life Enrichment program that offers vibrant and engaging events that cover all dimensions of life, including educational, social, spiritual, and physical.

Upcoming Artist Series Concerts:

Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. – The Rosen-Spector-Stern Trio

Sunday, March 4, 2012 3:00 p.m. - For Art For Love with Karin Paluidan, Soprano

Sunday, April 29, 2012, 3:00 p.m. – Balafon West African Dance Ensemble
