Enjoy American Movie Comedies
Join The Village at Rockville—A National Lutheran Community for an enriching and engaging program offered by our community partner, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at John Hopkins University. This four-part online program is complimentary for the first 50 registrants (and $15 per session, per person once we’ve filled those spots) and explores American movie comedies going back to the days of silent films up to the era of talkies. While entire films will not be shown, highlights will be featured with an explanation of their unique style, technique and significance.
Each online course will take place from 10 a.m. – noon each Thursday in August via Zoom. We will look into the following comedians on the following dates:
August 6 – Charlie Chaplin
August 13 – Buster Keaton
August 20 – Harold Lloyd
August 27 –The Marx Brothers
Register by July 30 or as soon as possible for each course.

About the presenter
Stan Levin has a degree in film and theatre from New York University and also studied theater at the graduate level at the Catholic University of America. He was a documentary filmmaker for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and an award-winning writer of radio and TV commercials. A nationally syndicated film critic, Stan is a frequent lecturer on film and contemporary culture in the Washington metro area.
