Meet out sponsor, National Lutheran Communities & Services.

Over 125 years of serving seniors.

“To fulfill its Christian ministry, National Lutheran Communities & Services provides an array of options for seniors including residential living along with home and health care services which are designed to meet individual needs.”

National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) is a not-for-profit, faith-based ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s (ELCA) Delaware-Maryland, Metropolitan Washington, D.C. and Virginia synods, serving people of all beliefs. NLCS provides seniors with a variety of lifestyle, residential, and health care options through retirement communities and services in Maryland and Virginia.

Each year, our deeply championed mission inspires us to allocate approximately $5 million in revenues to our Benevolent Fund, which offsets the cost of care for residents who can no longer afford it. Revenues are also invested back into its communities (residents and staff included), for better services, amenities and capital improvements.

The first National Lutheran Home, located in Washington, D.C., welcomed residents in 1895. After several expansions, The National Lutheran Home relocated to Rockville, Md., in 1980, and built a 300-bed skilled nursing facility on 30 acres now known as The Village at Rockville—A National Lutheran Community. In 2008 the organization created a parent entity, known as National Lutheran Communities & Services, to oversee the growing needs of the ministry.

Today, NLCS continues to meet the needs of seniors in its region. The National Lutheran family now includes The Legacy at North Augusta in Staunton, Va. The Village at Orchard Ridge in Winchester, Va., and coming soon, The Village at Providence Point in Annapolis, Md. (pending approval by the Maryland Department of Aging).
