Glenmere was constructed by Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. and awarded in the Residential/Hospitality Category
The Village at Rockville–A National Lutheran Community is pleased to announce Glenmere, an independent living expansion project of 130 apartment homes, has been awarded an Award of Merit in the 2021 ENR MidAtlantic Best Project Awards. The nomination was submitted by The Village at Rockville’s construction partner, Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. ENR is a weekly publication that provides news, analysis, data and opinion for the construction industry worldwide. It is widely regarded as one of the construction industry's most authoritative publications.
Glenmere was one of only 32 projects awarded in the ENR MidAtlantic Awards. Judges for the awards evaluated nearly 90 projects submitted from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. According to ENR MidAtlantic, projects were evaluated on the ability of the project team to overcome challenges, their contribution to the industry and community, safety, construction and design quality.
Regarding the awards, ENR MidAtlantic’s Justin Rice said, “Although it was hard to find something to celebrate in 2020, ENR MidAtlantic’s Best Projects judges took comfort in the fact that great projects were still completed despite a year full of challenges.”
The Glenmere expansion was erected on the west side of The Village at Rockville’s campus adjutant to the Health Center. The Village at Rockville’s Executive Director Kyle Hreben shared, “As an organization, our mission is to honor, inspire and support choice and opportunity in partnership with older adults. As we evaluated what older adults are looking for in a community, we knew we needed to build apartment homes to give an array of housing choices and new common area amenities that allow for a more connected experience for residents.”
Glenmere opened in early 2021, with the first resident move-in in January. In addition to an array of one-and-two bedroom apartment homes, Glenmere includes underground parking, three new dining venues (ranging from casual to formal dining), indoor and outdoor gathering spaces and the Engage Center featuring a state-of-the-art indoor aquatics center, fitness areas, classrooms for lifelong learning and a creative arts center.
National Lutheran Communities & Services (NCLS), the parent-organization of The Village at Rockville has worked with Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. numerous projects. NLCS’ President and CEO Cyndi Walters said, “Shockey has been a tremendous partner for us over the years. Our internal team along with Shockey, our architects at BCT Design and project management team at ARCH Consultants, designed a project that is much more than a building. The Village at Rockville is a community of thriving older adults who are not ready to slow down. When I visit, it’s exciting to see residents enjoying all the new dining venues and amenities like our aquatics and creative arts centers.”
The Village at Rockville is located in a quiet neighborhood in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Rockville, Maryland. While apartments are filling fast, there is still an opportunity to reserve an apartment before the community sells out.
