ROCKVILLE, Md. – The Village at Rockville—A National Lutheran Community (TVAR) is excited to partner with Strathmore’s Artist in Residence (AIR) program to host five concerts at the senior community through spring 2017.
Strathmore created its Artist in Residence (AIR) program more than 10 years ago in order to nurture the local music community and support the transition to a career professional. Through a competitive selection process, only 6 musicians/singers/songwriters, ages 16-32, are selected to participate in the 10-month program. Paired with seasoned professional musicians who serve as mentors, each AIR benefit from an array of professional development seminars, performance opportunities, and composition and teaching experiences. Through thriving partnerships with senior resident communities like TVAR, Strathmore presents concerts throughout Montgomery County featuring artists in residence.
“Strathmore is building community wherever it lives, using the arts as our common language," Director of Strathmore Artist in Residence Program Betty Scott said. “Having nurtured over 84 artists by way of our robust professional development program, Strathmore artists in residence are providing a thoughtful amalgamation of community outreach and lifelong, experiential learning through the arts for active seniors throughout our county.”
TVAR focuses on enriching the lives of seniors in all aspects of their programmatic efforts and the arts hold a special place in their heart.
“We’re thrilled to expand and enhance our concert line-up at the community,” Executive Director Jason Gottschalk said. “The arts are one area where we see our seniors thrive in all stages of the aging process. We’re grateful to partner with an organization that can share their talent with us and is committed to a like-minded mission of lifelong learning.”
TVAR is scheduled to host five concerts for the 2016-2017 year. The next concert will be held on Thursday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m., featuring Griff Kazmierczak on the jazz trumpet and violin. The concerts are free and open to the public, but seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more concert information, visit www.thevillageatrockville.org/events.
